"Some of the words used in the information that I have stored here for you are difficult to understand. So I have tried to explain them for you here, I hope it helps."

 

BAUXITE

Bauxite is the rock that contains the metal aluminium.
BIO-DEGRADABLE Something that is Bio-degradable slowly rots into harmless waste products which do not damage the environment.

CULLET

This is the name given to glass when it is broken into small bits before it is recycled.

DECOMPOSE

When something decomposes it rots down into smaller pieces and eventually becomes part of the ground.

FIBRE

A fibre looks like a small thread, it is part of a plant or an animal. If you look at a piece of paper through a magnifying glass you can see the fibres.

INCINERATE

Some of our waste is incinerated. This means that it is burnt, all that is left after  this is ash.

LANDFILL

This is our main way of disposing of waste. When we landfill we put all our waste into a large hole in the ground. When the hole has been filled we cover all the waste up and then leave it.

ORE

An ore is a rock which contains metal. We mine the rock and remove the metal so that it can be made into products that we use such as cans and foil.

RAW MATERIAL

This is what all the things we use are made from. Everything has a different raw material for example the main raw material for paper is wood and the raw material for plastic is oil. However raw materials can be something that was waste for example waste paper can be the raw material to make paper.

TEXTILES

This is the name with give to products like clothes, cloths and curtains. These are just a few types of textiles there are a lot more.

VIRGIN MATERIAL

A virgin material is a raw materials that has not been used before.
